Mr. A. P. Hota retires from MD & CEO position at NPCI

Mr. A. P. Hota’s term ended as MD & CEO on August 10, 2017. His immense contribution of more than eight and a half years was duly appreciated by the Board. He was the first MD & CEO of the organization since August 23, 2010. In the 55th Board meeting held on August 11, 2017, it was resolved that Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Dilip Asbe will be the CEO-in-Charge till a new incumbent assumes charge. Mr. Asbe has been in NPCI since its inception and has played a pivotal role in designing, building, operationalising and managing large scale payment processing platforms like Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), India’s home-grown card network – RuPay and several other initiatives.

Induction of new Directors on Board of NPCI

The Board has inducted Mr. Raj Kamal Verma, Executive Director from Bank of Baroda and Mr. Ravikrishnan M.K., Chairman, Kerala Gramin Bank as nominee directors from their respective banks. They bring great expertise from banking industry.

PNB Bank launches RuPay Platinum International Debit Card

PNB Bank launched host of digital products for their customers on August 16 in New Delhi. The services include launch of RuPay Platinum International Debit Card and BharatQR among others. The launch event was attended by senior representatives of NPCI, PNB Bank and other stakeholders.

BC Card of Korea signs MoU with NPCI

Korean payment processing company BC Card has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for network partnership with India’s payment leader NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) on August 22, 2017. Through this MOU, BC Card and NPCI aspire to attain BC local card’s acceptance in RuPay (India’s domestic card network) enabled merchants in India, provide RuPay card’s acceptance in BC Card merchants in Korea and explore the possibilities of a co-branding product and identify new areas of partnership.

NPCI’s Town Hall meet; launch of Values portal

NPCI’s HR team launched organised launch of new portal for employees based on NPCI values. The portal was launched by renowned actor Mr. AshishVidyarthi in presence of NPCI’s top management on August 8 in Mumbai. The portal greets employees with insights on NPCI values i.e. Passion for Excellence, Integrity, Customer Centricity, Respect and Collaboration. NPCI’s exiting MD & CEO addressed all employees at town hall meeting on the same day. He felicitated employees who completed 3 and 5 years in the organisation among other activities.

China Union Pay enters strategic partnership with NPCI

UnionPay International (UPI), the international operations subsidiary of China UnionPay (CUP), operationalised the acceptance of UnionPaypayment cards at ATMs and POS terminals in India through a strategic partnership with NPCI. Through this strategic partnership, UnionPay cards acceptance coverage in India will reach about 100 per cent for both ATMs and POS terminals in the coming few years. The development has enabled CUP to serve increasing number of tourists and business professionals with payment options at ATM and POS terminals in India especially from Asia where UnionPay has a large count of card members. The total card member base of UnionPay is about 6.3 billion spanning across 42 countries and territories.

AP Mahesh Bank onboards BBPS

AP Mahesh Bank inaugurated BBPS service via their digital Portal cashnowbillpay.com and its bank branches on August 9, 2017 in Hyderabad. The bank has also tied up with Agent-Institution named Aadharshila with 3000+ outlets/retail shops across India for Bharat Billpay service.

CSC Bharat BillPay Launch

Common Service Centre (CSC) launched Bharat BillPay in August for more than 3 lakh Agents/retail shops i.e. their Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) across India. The Hon’ble Minister for Electronics & IT and Law & Justice, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad delivered the inaugural address of emerging opportunity through CSC on 18th August 2017 in Delhi. NPCI’s exhibition center was placed at the event to educate the retailers across India about various NPCI products like Bharat BillPay, BHIM and RuPay.

FINO Payments Bank goes live on NPCI products and services

FINO Payments Bank announced the launch of its operations on July 17, 2017 with 410 branches across 14 states in India. Mr. S.K. Gupta, Chief Project Advisor, NPCI welcomed the bank to the NPCI ecosystem. FINO is currently live on NFS, RuPay, IMPS and is in the process of on-boarding for various other NPCI products and services.

NPCI to host 8th Asian Payment Card Forum

APSCA will organise the 8th Asian Payment Card Forum in Mumbai which is set to be Asia’s largest gathering of card issuers and acquirers, domestic bank card networks, international payment systems, mobile payment companies and e-payment services providers. The meet is aimed at exploring best practices for driving the consumer payments landscape towards a digital payments future. NPCI is hosting the event, which will provide a unique learning, discussion and networking opportunity for experts in consumer payments and retail banking in Asia. The Forum will highlight how India is setting trends in payments that have global relevance.
