NPCI appoints Mr. Arif Khan and Ms. Praveena Rai as CDO and COO

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced the appointments of Ms. Praveena Rai as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Mr. Arif Khan as Chief Digital Officer (CDO) with effect from 20th February 2019 and 18th February 2019, respectively.

As COO, Ms. Praveena Rai will be in-charge of formulating & deploying the marketing, business development, product management and operations strategy in line with NPCI’s overall strategic objectives of simple, secure and seamless consumer experience to further the cause of rapid digitalisation of India. Ms. Rai will drive product penetration, reach and visibility of NPCI’s offerings through suitable partnerships.

The profile of CDO is taken over by Mr. Arif Khan at NPCI, who will be leading strategic planning for digital transformation. The role is aimed at growing NPCI’s new products portfolio basis customer needs and industry trends. Mr. Khan will be responsible for driving innovation, analytics and technology.

RuPay Global Cards crosses 64 million issuances

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has reached a milestone by issuing over 64 million RuPay Global cards, since first issuing it in 2014. Leveraging the established interconnection between the two payment networks, the scope of this strategic relationship covers issuance of co-branded RuPay-Discover debit and credit globally accepted cards by NPCI member banks in India. The RuPay Global Debit and Credit cards are currently issued by 40 banks. They can be used for purchases at merchant locations and cash withdrawals on the Discover Global Network at major countries like USA, Singapore, Srilanka etc. where cardholders travel. The Discover Global Network includes Discover Network, Diners Club International, PULSE and affiliated networks.

RuPay associates with the 1st edition of ProVolleyBall

RuPay the flagship product of NPCI has acquired the title sponsorship rights of India’s newest franchise based sports league, the Pro Volleyball League scheduledfrom 2nd February- 22nd February 2019. Conceived to fulfil the vision of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) of offering a domestic card payment system to all banks and financial institutions in India, RuPay will be the league’s Title sponsor that takes off with six franchises from six different cities.

The inaugural edition of the league began with Kochi Blue Spikers taking on U Mumba Volley on 2nd February at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Kochi. The six teams that were announced in November 2018, will play each other in a round robin format in the first season that will have 18 matches.

NPCI wins ET Policy Change Agent Award

National Payments Corporation of India was awarded as ‘Policy Change Agent’ of the year at ET Awards held on November 17, 2018 in Mumbai. The award was presented by Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India to Mr. Biswamohan Mahapatra, Non-Executive Chairman, NPCI and Mr. Dilip Asbe, Managing Director & CEO, NPCI. The trophy was presented to NPCI for driving change in consumer behavior with regards to digital payments. NPCI is managing retail payments in India with plethora of digital payments services like BHIM UPI, IMPS, RuPay cards, Aadhaar Enabled Payment Services, National Electronic Toll Collection, Bharat BillPay, Bharat QR and others.
