What is FASTag?

FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas, without stopping for cash transactions. The tag can be purchased from Tag issuers and if it is linked to the prepaid account, then you need to recharge/ top up the tag as per your requirement.

What are the benefits of using FASTag?

  • Cashless payment – FASTag users don’t need to carry cash for toll transactions, and don’t need to worry about collecting the exact change.
  • Promotional cashback – All FASTag users get a monthly cashback of 5% of toll transactions for FY 2018-19.
  • Faster transit – Auto-debit of exact amount through the FASTag enables faster transit through the toll plazas and saves time
  • Online recharge – FASTag can be recharged online through Credit Card / Debit Card / NEFT/ RTGS or Net banking
  • SMS alerts – Instant SMS alerts on registered mobile number for toll transactions, low balance, etc.

What is the validity of FASTag?

FASTag has unlimited validity. The same FASTag can be used till the tag can be read by the reader and not tampered with. In case due to wear and tear the reading quality depreciates, please reach out to your Issuing Bank for a new tag.

Which are the roads where the tag can be used?

FASTag is presently operational at 400+ toll plazas across National Highways. The system is inter-operable and the same FASTag can be used across all toll plazas under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program. Is there any discount / cashback on toll payments using FASTag?

You can avail a cashback of 5% on all Toll payments using FASTag in FY 2018-19. The cash back amount will be credited back in the tag-linked account on a monthly basis

How can I buy FASTag?

  • You may visit any of the Point of Sale (POS) locations of the certified issuing banks (ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, IDFC Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, etc.) at Toll Plazas or Banks’ sales offices to get your tag account created.
  • Alternatively, you can reach out to the Issuing Bank Customer Care numbers to identify the closest POS location. Please refer the respective Issuer bank section.

What are the charges for FASTag?

  • FASTag is issued by Issuing Banks and charges are decided by Member banks as per their internal policy. However, the actual tag issuing charges are defined by the Issuing Bank and may vary from bank to bank.

I have two vehicles. Can I use one FASTag for two vehicles?

No, you will need to take two separate FASTag for the two vehicles.

What are the documents needed to apply for FASTag?

Since the FASTag is linked to an account, KYC documentation would be required as per the KYC policy of the Issuer Bank. Apart from the KYC documentation, you need to submit Registration

Do I need to use any specific lane at the toll plaza for FASTag?

Yes, you will have to use the lanes demarcated for FASTag users. Only the marked lanes have the required RFID infrastructure installed to read your FASTag. In case you enter a cash-only lane, the FASTag will not be read and cash will need to be paid.

How would I know that the correct user fee has been deducted from my FASTag account?

You will receive an SMS alert in your registered phone number each time a balance is deducted from your FASTag account.

How would I report an incorrect deduction and how will I get back the same?

You can report an incorrect deduction by calling your Issuing Bank Customer Care Helpline number written on the FASTag. The Issuing Bank will review your request and if found correct, they will raise a chargeback and shall reverse the incorrect deduction.

Can I avail a monthly pass?

Monthly pass for a toll plaza will be issued at that particular toll plaza or the POS locations put by the Acquirer Bank of the toll plaza. If you are registered tag holder, you need to visit the toll plaza [or the Acquirer Bank POS locations] and request for the particular pass scheme. You need to pay for the selected pass scheme by cash or card to the operator. Once the payment is approved, the operator will activate the affixed tag for the pass scheme.

How can I recharge my tag account?

Issuing Banks will give the facility for recharging your tag-linked account through various channels, such as payment through cheque or through UPI/Credit Card/ Debit Card/ NEFT/ RTGS or through Net Banking. Please check the Issuer Bank website for more details.

What do I have to do if I have lost/ damaged my RFID Tag? What will happen to the account balance?

You can request the Issuing Bank to issue a new tag. The balance amount in the old tag-linked account can be transferred to either the new tag account or some different account depending on the facilities provided by the bank

How do I block my FASTag account, in case my vehicle is lost?

You can call your Issuing Bank customer care and block your FASTag account.

Can FASTag be used for passage through toll plazas on the state highways?

I reside within 10 km of a particular toll plaza. Do I need to take FASTag to get the concessions available for local vehicles?

You can purchase a FASTag to avail the concessions. Once you purchase the FASTag, you will need to submit the required documents (proof of residence) at the Acquiring Bank POS location to validate your residence within 10 km of a particular plaza. Once it is verified by the respective toll plaza, you may avail the concession on the FASTag assigned to your vehicle.

In case of harassment/ misconduct/ discourteous/ rude behavior of toll collection staff, what should we do?

In case of such a scenario, a complaint is to be lodged with respective Project Directors at the toll plaza. Further, the incident may be reported at etc.nodal@ihmcl.com and you can also call at 1033.
