RuPay- Making India Prominent On The World Map

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” – Anonymous

A smart step ahead is when you are the initiator of the change rather than enabling time to take its own course. A futuristic outlook is the perfect recipe for ushering in a phenomenal transformation in society. RuPay Cards, a product of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is a step towards uniting India and building a nation together.

The name RuPay, an amalgamation of the words ‘Rupee’ and ‘Payment’, speaks volumes about the country of its origin and introduces an indigenous flavour to the name. RuPay is a revelation in the world of card schemes, which is a first-of-its-kind in India.

‘RuPay’ embossed on your Debit Card almost serves as an identity proof for the nation that we belong to, a card that defines our nationality. A card that the patriot in you would love to flaunt along with your passport at the Duty-Free Section of an International Airport as much as empower India to go cashless the Indian way. It is an effective channel for placing India on the world map, symbolizing our national identity globally and awakening the spirit of patriotism.

Demonetisation has served as an eye-opener for India, emphasizing on the necessity to reduce our dependence on paper money and go cashless instead. This appears to be a distant dream since, despite widespread internet penetration and rapid developments in technology, these advancements has mostly remained restricted to the street-smart, urban population of India. RuPay Cards act as a catalyst for empowering the nation in managing their finances and driving home the reality that going cashless is the only smart strategy for a financially-secured future.

One of the most serious impediments that India faces while on its way to achieve a cashless economy is the percentage of our population who actively operate their bank accounts frequently. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched by the government in August 2014 with the purpose of encouraging the Indian masses to secure their finances in bank accounts.

“I strongly believed that money is best kept safe at home until I had a bank account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. When my neighbour explained to me about the benefits that he has been getting from opening a bank account under this scheme, I too decided to try it. And, since then, there has been no looking back. I can now safely say that my money is in safe hands.”- Sanjay Verma, Lucknow

This initiative showed swift results with 125 million new bank accounts being opened within six months of the launch of the scheme. However, The World Bank points out that about 72% of these bank accounts show ‘zero balance’, indicating that the dormancy rate in India is a steep 43%! Additionally, a meagre 39% of account holders in India have opted for a Debit or ATM Card. This highlights the apparent unawareness of the masses about the existence of a card that enables them to withdraw cash instantly from any ATM, without having to visit their banks.

The current economic situation holds immense opportunities to spread awareness among the masses about the indispensability of owning a Debit Card. By putting aside foreign entities as sole providers for card payments, Indians are more appealed to be proud owners of a RuPay Debit Card!

RuPay strives to be synonymous with inspiring India to take a futuristic approach, rise up to unexpected economic circumstances unitedly by going cashless. Celebrating our unity in diversity, it is judiciously planned to make it relevant across economic strata. Lower processing charges for RuPay Cards ensure that the pride of being an Indian can be shared with all, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Express your Indianness with style!
