What Exactly Is BHIM?

BHIM is a UPI based payment interface which allows real time fund transfer using a single identity like your mobile number or name.

What Is UPI?

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a system that powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing & merchant payments into one hood. It also caters to the “Peer to Peer” collect request which can be scheduled and paid as per requirement and convenience.

Is BHIM Available For All Handsets And Operating Systems?

BHIM can be used currently on all handsets with Android OS version 4.2 and above as well as iOS 8.1 and above also on basic feature phones using *99#.

In How Many Languages Is BHIM Available?

Currently BHIM is available in 13 languages, i.e., Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Odia, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Assamese, Bengali and Urdu.

How Do I Use BHIM If My Bank Is Not Live On UPI?

You cannot perform a UPI transaction. Please mention your bank name in the Get in Touch section.

What Is VPA?

A Virtual Payment Address (VPA) is a unique identifier which you can use to send and receive money on UPI. Think of it as an email ID which you can use to transfer money.

Can I Use BHIM Outside India?

Currently, you can use BHIM only in India.

What Are The Charges To Use BHIM?

NPCI does not charge any user for transacting on BHIM. Kindly get in touch with your bank to ask for their charges.

What If I Want To Do A Transaction Without Internet?

You can do the same by dialling *99# on your mobile phone and accessing the menu on your screen.

BHIM is an app that lets you make easy and quick payment transactions using UPI.

How Is BHIM Different From Others?

Using BHIM, you can directly make direct bank to bank payments and instantly collect money using just Mobile number or Payment address. You do not need to create a wallet for using BHIM.

How Fast Is A Transaction On BHIM?

As fast as it can get! All payments over BHIM are linked to your bank account and transaction can be completed within few seconds.

Is BHIM Available For All Handsets And Operating Systems?

In How Many Languages Is BHIM Available?

Currently it is available in 12 languages, i.e., Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Odia, Kannada and Gujarati.

Can We Switch Between Multiple Screens On The Device?

Yes, you can do so while using the app. However, if the other screen is opened for more than 90 sec the BHIM app will automatically log out.

UPI Pin Setting

What Is UPI PIN?

UPI PIN is a four or six digit number that is set by the customers on BHIM after the registration process. UPI PIN is used for authenticating all transactions done on UPI platform (BHIM or *99# or UPI apps).

What Happens After Registration?

Once your mobile is verified, you will have to select your bank account and set your UPI pin.

I Cannot See My Bank In The List. What Now?

Your bank is not registered with UPI, hence it is not on the list. Our team is working towards getting all banks on UPI.

I Can See My Bank, But I Cannot See My Account Number. What Now?

Due to some technical reason, your account details cannot be obtained by the app. Kindly click here and provide details.

How Do I Set My UPI Pin?

After you select your bank account, you will be promoted to set your UPI pin for the first time. You need to input the last 6 digits of your UPI pin along with the expiry date.

I Have Already Set A Pin On Another App With A Bank Account. Can I Use The Same Pin On BHIM?

While setting the UPI pin there a SYNC option at the bottom of the screen. If you click that, the pin you have set on the other app will be set on BHIM.

I Am Unable To Set My UPI Pin. What Now?

Due to some technical reason, your UPI pin cannot be set. Kindly click here  and provide details.

Sending Money

What Methods Are Available On BHIM For Sending Money?

BHIM users can send money by knowing the following details of the receiver:

  1. UPI ID ( Registered on UPI)
  2. Mobile No. (Registered on BHIM or *99#)
  3. Account no. & IFS Code
  4. Aadhaar Number

Is There A Limit To The Amount Of Money That Can Be Sent Using BHIM?

A user on BHIM can send per day Rs.20,000/- can be sent and per transaction upto Rs.10,000/- can be sent.

Can I Change The Default UPI ID?

The default UPI ID is mymobileno@upi .You can change by going to the “My profile” section and selecting among the available UPI IDs.

How Many UPI IDs Can Be Added To BHIM?

BHIM allows you to use two UPI IDs. First one is the default UPI ID (mobile number@upi). The second one, you can create on “My Profile” page.

I Have Multiple Accounts Linked To The Same Mobile No. Which Accounts Can I Use For Sending Money?

Let’s say you have two accounts i.e SBI and ICICI. You want to transfer money from SBI to ICICI. You will select SBI as your default account linked to your UPI ID. To transfer money, click on send and then select the option to transfer money via Account Number + IFSC. Insert the details of your ICICI account and you will be able to transact.

I Have Two Bank Accounts. Using One Of Them, I Have Registered On BHIM. How Can I Send Money From This Account To The Other?

Let’s say you have two accounts i.e SBI and ICICI. You want to transfer money from SBI to ICICI. You will select SBI as your default account linked to your UPI ID. TO transfer money, click on send and then select the option to transfer money via Account Number + IFSC. Insert the details of your ICICI account and you will be able to transact.

What Is Required For Paying By Using Aadhaar Number?

The Aadhaar number should be linked to his Beneficiary’s account number and the bank should be enabled on UPI.

If A Person Has Aadhaar Number Linked To Multiple Accounts, Which Account Will The Money Get Credited If I Perform This Transaction?

If someone links their Aadhaar number in two bank accounts and in the event you send them money via BHIM, the money gets credited to the account where the Aadhaar number was linked the latest.

Can I Save The Beneficiary Details For Later Transactions?

Yes, you can save details. While sending money to a particular receiver you have to click on the option Save for Future.

How To Use Scan & Pay Feature For Sending Money?

Scan & pay option is present in the Home page where you can click and the QR scanner opens up. Using this you can scan the QR code of the receiver and send him money.

How Do I Generate My QR Code?

Once you register on BHIM, a QR code and default UPI ID is created. You can check these details on the My Profile section of BHIM.

Receiving Money

How Can Anyone Receive Money Using BHIM?

Anyone can send you money by knowing any of the details given below -

  1. Mobile Number(Registered on BHIM or *99#)
  2. UPI ID
  3. VPA
  4. Account No. & IFSC Code
  5. Aadhaar Number

Is There A Limit On The Amount Of Money That Can Be Received Using BHIM?

No, there is no limit on the amount of money that can be received using BHIM.

What Is Request?

On BHIM, you can initiate a collect transaction for asking money from someone. You have to enter the amount and UPI ID. The user who will receive the request can pay or decline the collect request by authenticating it with the UPI pin.

How To Block Unknown Money Requests?

You can do so by clicking on spam for the request and also by clicking that particular sender so that he can no longer send unwanted requests.

Where Can I Check Money Requests That Have Been Made To Me?

You can go to transaction screen of BHIM and check the status of money requests.

Is There A Time Frame Within Which The Money Request Has To Be Accepted?

Pending transactions can be viewed in the Profile section of BHIM. The requests will be valid till the time the initiator has kept. If the request is not accepted within that set time, the request expires.

Money Sent But Not Credited To The Receiver. What Should I Do?

The transaction has failed due to a system error. The money is in the pool account of the remitting bank.
Your transaction ID is your reference ID, which you can take up with your bank. To report a failed transaction, click on report issues and mention the details. The amount should be reversed to you in T+3 days.

Failed And Pending Transactions

I Have Sent Money But The Transaction Failed And My Account Is Debited. What Should I Do?

The transaction has failed due to a system error. The money is in the pool account of the remitting bank (your bank). Your transaction ID is your reference ID, which you can take up with your bank.

To report a failed transaction, click on report issues and mention the details. The amount should be reversed to you in T+3 days.

My Beneficiaries

What Is My Beneficiaries?

My Beneficiaries is a feature added which helps users to organize their payer contacts. It contains the list of payers to whom a transaction was initiated.

How Do I Save A Beneficiary?

When performing a transaction, click the button “Save for future” to save the contact. You can view the same in your added beneficiary.

How Do I Delete A Saved Contact From My Beneficiary?

When you click on any contact in my beneficiary, it gets highlighted with two options i.e. “Send Money” and “Delete”. Click on delete to remove the beneficiary from the list.

How Do I Unblock A User?

Click on the three dots on the top right of the My Beneficiary page and go to blocked contacts. Click on the contact and select the option to unblock the same.

BHIM Referral Scheme Eligibility

What Do You Mean By The Referral Scheme?

In this scheme, you (BHIM App & *99# user) can earn referral bonus by giving your referral code to a new user (non - BHIM & non - *99# user) and can also earn referral bonus by registering on BHIM app/*99# if you are a new user.

What Is Referral Bonus?

The amount earned by you using the referral scheme is the referral bonus.

Who Is Considered As A Referrer ?

A person who is currently a BHIM/*99# user who will provide his referral code (registered mobile number) to be used for the referral scheme can be termed as referrer.

Who Is A Referee?

A new user who is never on-boarded on BHIM/*99# platform will be treated as a referee.

What Is The Eligibility Criteria To Avail Referral Scheme As An Existing BHIM/ *99# User?

The person who will be using your referral code must register on BHIM/*99# and should perform 3 valid unique successful transactions using BHIM/*99#.

Money transferred from one account to another, of amount which is greater than or equal to Rs.1 and less than Rs.10,000, using BHIM/*99#. However, valid transactions for the scheme ought to be greater than or equal to Rs.50/-.

I Have Put The Referral Code, But I Haven’t Got The Cashback Money Yet?

You will get a referral bonus amount of Rs.25/- after completing all the required conditions to your newly registered BHIM/*99# account.

Cashback Scheme

How Do I Earn My Cashback As a Merchant?

You just need to have more than 50 valid credit transactions from your BHIM or UPI using customers. But make sure at least 20 credit transactions are from unique customers. Remember, a valid credit transaction is always above Rs.25/-.

How Much Is My Cashback?

You can earn Rs.100/- for 50 to 100 valid credit transactions in a period of one month. But more transactions are always rewarding. You can get 50 paisa on each valid credit transaction after you cross 100 transactions. But make sure at least 20 credit transactions are from unique customers. Remember, a valid credit transaction is always above Rs.25/-.

Even My Collect Requests To My Customers Are Considered?

Yes, credit transactions using your collect request to BHIM and UPI using customers are also considered for cashback. Now, it’s time to use the revolutionary collect feature of BHIM and get rewards.

When Do I Get Paid My Cashback?

Your cashback is processed on or before the 10th day of every month. Please remember that all your valid credit transactions are calculated for a calendar month.

Where Can I See The Current Status Of My Cashback?

“Rewards” section in the BHIM app is the place you are looking for. Log in to your BHIM app and get into “Transactions” section, where you click 3 dots on the top-right corner of the screen to find the “Rewards” section. If you are using *99#, you can find your “Rewards” section in the “Transactions” menu.

Where Does My Cashback Get Credited?

Your cashback money will be credited directly into your BHIM-linked bank account.

Can I Be A Part Of The Referral Scheme Too?

Of course, along with Merchant Cashback Scheme, you can be a part of the referral scheme too. So start referring BHIM to your family, friends and customers, to get bonuses for all your referrals.
